Germany's cartel office has launched an investigation into Chinese discount e-commerce platform Temu over potential pricing influence on merchants.
The German competition watchdog is examining whether Temu imposes requirements on merchants that could restrict their pricing decisions on the German marketplace.
"We are investigating the suspicion that Temu could impose inadmissible requirements on merchants' pricing on the German marketplace," said cartel office president Andreas Mundt.
Mundt added that such requirements could significantly restrict competition and potentially lead to price increases on other sales channels.
The antitrust proceedings have been opened against Dublin-based Whaleco Technology Limited, which operates Temu's business in Germany.
Temu, known for its ultra-low prices on a wide range of products, has rapidly expanded its presence in European markets since its launch.
